Known for large-scale canvases that hover between abstraction and figuration, Brian Harte creates deconstructed interior settings that hold traces of his own domestic life. Household items, such as table lamps, chairs, or framed pictures, crystallise and dissolve in each work alongside the occasional indiscernible figure, leaving clues for a narrative yet to unfold. With a bold palette, the artist conjures portals that transport viewers through a visual network, at once intimate and private, but also familiar and universal.
Brian Harte studied at the Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork, graduating in 2002. He is represented by the MAKI Gallery in London and the Simchowitz Gallery, Los Angeles. His work has recently been acquired the Arts Council of Ireland and also by OKETA Collection, Japan, and Kunstmuseum, Wolfsburg, Germany for their permanent collections.
