Abstract Source Material: Conor Foy

18 April - 3 May 2013

The Molesworth gallery has been delighted to present an exhibition of new work by Conor Foy, his first solo show in Ireland. A fully-illustrated catalogue has been published by the gallery to coincide with the exhibition

His work has been singled for special praise by Tyler Green, columnist with Modern Painters.

Artist's Statement

"I am driven to paint for purposes of introspection and meditation on the balance of survival, mortality, power and expressions of autonomy.

The work is not event specific, context is abstract, disassociated from any identifiable setting.

The immediate action of painting needs to be innate, generally a product of the subconscious and many happy accidents working away from the source material. Images work in both abstract and descriptive aspects, narrative is broad and open to interpretation, creating a meditative space in which to develop a dialogue between the work and viewer."

Conor Foy is a Brooklyn based artist. Born in Dublin in 1967, his qualifications include a BFA from NCAD in 1990 and an MFA from Columbia University in 1997.
